LINE SKYWALKER KARLSTRÖM
LINE SKYWALKER KARLSTRÖM
Line Skywalker Karlström (b. 1971, Karlstad, Sweden) is a visual artist whose practice interrogates the boundaries between body, material, and space through a dynamic engagement with queer, trans, and feminist traditions—both historical and contemporary. Working across sculpture, performance, curating, textiles, and text, they create works that actively challenge institutional art frameworks and the political dimensions of materiality. Karlström holds an MFA from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts, Norway and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen. Since moving to Berlin in 2006, they have received significant grants, including a two-year working grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (2020–2021), the Berlin Senat Work Grant in 2023, and the Honorary Award from the Anne Marie Telmanyi born Carl-Nielsen Fund. Their residencies include Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2016) and Astrid Noack Atelier, Copenhagen (2024). In 2022 their retrospective monograph Holes Dug, Rocks Thrown was published with Archive Books Berlin.
